    [4] "네가 바라는 것이 무엇이냐?" 하고, 왕께서 또 나에게 물으셨다. 나는 하늘의 하나님께 기도를 드리고 나서,

    [5] 왕에게 말씀드렸다. "임금님께서 좋으시면, 임금님께서 소신을 좋게 여기시면, 소신의 조상이 묻혀 있는 유다의 그 성읍으로 저를 보내 주셔서, 그 성읍을 다시 세우게 하여 주시기를 바랍니다."

    [6] 그 때에 왕후도 왕 옆에 앉아 있었다. 왕은 "그렇게 다녀오려면 얼마나 걸리겠느냐? 언제쯤 돌아올 수 있겠느냐?" 하고 나에게 물으셨다. 왕이 기꺼이 허락하실 것 같은 생각이 들어서, 나는 얼마가 걸릴지를 말씀드렸다.

    [7] 나는 왕에게 덧붙여서 말씀드렸다. "임금님께서 좋으시다면, 소신이 유다까지 무사히 갈 수 있도록 유프라테스 서쪽 지방의 총독들에게 보내는 친서를 몇 통 내려 주시기 바랍니다.

    [8] 또 왕실 숲을 맡아 보는 아삽에게도, 나무를 공급하라고 친서를 내리셔서, 제가 그 나무로 성전 옆에 있는 성채 문짝도 짜고, 성벽도 쌓고, 소신이 살 집도 짓게 하여 주시기 바랍니다." 나의 하나님이 선하신 손길로 나를 잘 보살펴 주셔서, 왕이 나의 청을 들어주었다.

    [2] so the king asked me, “Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart.” I was very much afraid,

    [3] but I said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”

    [4] The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven,

    [5] and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.”

    [6] Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, “How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?” It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time.

    [7] I also said to him, “If it pleases the king, may I have letters to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, so that they will provide me safe-conduct until I arrive in Judah?

    [8] And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the royal park, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?” And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests.

    [14] '샘 문'과 '왕의 연못'에 이르렀을 때에는, 내가 탄 짐승이 더 나아갈 길이 없었다.

    [15] 그래서 그 날 밤에 나는 계곡을 따라 올라가면서, 성벽을 둘러보고, 다시 '골짜기 문'을 지나 되돌아왔다.

    [16] 그 때에 내가 유다 사람들이나, 제사장들이나, 귀족들이나, 관리들이나, 그 밖에 직책을 가진 어느 누구에게도 이것을 말하지 아니하였으므로, 관리들은, 내가 어디를 다녀왔는지, 무엇을 하였는지, 아무도 알지 못하였다.

    [9] So I went to the governors of Trans-Euphrates and gave them the king’s letters. The king had also sent army officers and cavalry with me.

    [10] When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard about this, they were very much disturbed that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites.

    [11] I went to Jerusalem, and after staying there three days

    [12] I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one I was riding on.

    [13] By night I went out through the Valley Gate toward the Jackal* Well and the Dung Gate, examining the walls of Jerusalem, which had been broken down, and its gates, which had been destroyed by fire. / *Or Serpent or Fig

    [14] Then I moved on toward the Fountain Gate and the King’s Pool, but there was not enough room for my mount to get through;

    [15] so I went up the valley by night, examining the wall. Finally, I turned back and reentered through the Valley Gate.

    [16] The officials did not know where I had gone or what I was doing, because as yet I had said nothing to the Jews or the priests or nobles or officials or any others who would be doing the work.

    [17] Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.”

    [18] I also told them about the gracious hand of my God on me and what the king had said to me. They replied, “Let us start rebuilding.” So they began this good work.

    [19] But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they mocked and ridiculed us. “What is this you are doing?” they asked. “Are you rebelling against the king?”

    [20] I answered them by saying, “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.”

10. gratitude / 감사

Despite the unfavorable weather, we give thanks for being able to hold an outdoor worship service that was even more grace-filled, joyful, and abundant.

I am grateful that a sister who served alongside me as a cell group leader and worship accompanist during my four years leading the youth ministry from 1999 visited Boston with her son, allowing us to fellowship. I am thankful she came to the Friday morning prayer meeting on her departure day to serve as worship accompanist and worship with us.

날씨가 좋지 않은 중에도 오히려 더 은혜롭고 즐겁고 풍성한 야외예배를 드리게 됨에 감사를 드립니다.
1999년 부터 4년간 청년부를 담당할 때 순장(목자)과 찬양 반주로 동역했던 자매님이 아들과 함께 보스턴을 방문하여 교제할 수 있어서 감사했습니다. 떠나는 날인 금요일 새벽기도에 와서 찬양 반주로 섬기며 예배할 수 있어서 감사했습니다.

지난 주 설교 / Last Sunday's Sermon

God's throne is the space of seraphim and seraphim, emphasizing "God and God." It is called the throne of grace, the throne of mercy. It is the place where God's love, trust, honor, and glory flow.

Therefore, for believers who trust and follow Jesus, there is also that place called "me and you." A believer is one who lives a life not filling the space between me and you with their own strength, but borrowing from God to fill it with love and glory.

Let us say to one another, 'I love you.' Let us say, 'I will serve you diligently.' Let us say, 'I will pray for you.' Let us ask one another for prayer requests and share them. The very act of praying is beginning a great work. May you become worship frontiersmen and women who grow in holiness through the small act of prayer.

하나님의 보좌는 “하나님과 하나님 사이”를 강조하는 스랍과 스랍의 공간입니다. 그곳을 시은좌, 은혜의 보좌라고 부릅니다. 하나님의 사랑, 신뢰, 명예, 영광이 흐르는 자리입니다.

그래서 예수님을 믿고 따르는 신자에게도 “나와 너”라고 부르는 그 자리가 있습니다. 나와 너의 사이를 자신의 능력으로 채우는 것이 아니라 하나님께로 부터 빌려서 사랑과 영광을 채워나가는 삶을 사는 것이 신자라고 할 수 있습니다.

서로에게 ‘사랑합니다’라고 말합시다.
’힘써 섬기겠다’고 말합시다. ‘
기도해 드리겠다’고 말합시다.
서로에게 기도제목을 물어보며 기도제목을 나누도록 합시다.
기도를 한다는 것 자체가 위대한 일을 시작한 것입니다. 기도라는 작은 섬김에서 성고하는 워십프론티어 성도들이 되기를 축복합니다.

🟩 Introduction / 서론

In the first chapter of Nehemiah, we learned that prayer opens the door to mercy and prosperity.
Nehemiah’s story began not with power, but with prayer — a humble cry for his broken people.

In chapter 2:1–8, we saw how that prayer led to small steps of faith. Even a single moment of courage before the king became a step of obedience through which God’s gracious hand worked.

Now, in today’s passage (2:9–20), Nehemiah moves from prayer to action — from personal conviction to motivating leadership. He teaches us that leadership in God’s kingdom is not about position or control, but about prayer(plan), preparation, and inspiration.

느헤미야 1장에서 우리는 기도가 자비와 형통의 문을 연다는 것을 배웠습니다. 느헤미야의 이야기는 권력이 아니라 기도로 시작되었습니다.

🟩 1. Planning in Prayer / 기도로 계획하는 리더십

Nehemiah 2:1–8 / 느헤미야 2:1–8

“Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king.” (v.4–5)
“내가 하늘의 하나님께 기도하고 왕에게 아뢰었다.” (4–5절)

Nehemiah’s leadership began in the secret place of prayer. Before he built walls, he built faith.
Through prayer, he planned with wisdom and received God’s timing.

느헤미야의 리더십은 은밀한 기도에서 시작되었습니다.
그는 성벽을 세우기 전에 믿음을 세웠습니다.
기도를 통해 하나님의 때와 지혜를 얻었습니다.

✨ Lesson / 교훈:
True leadership begins not with ability, but with prayerful dependence on God.
참된 리더십은 그 어떤 능력보다 하나님께 의지하는 기도에서 시작됩니다.

(Jms 1:5, NIV11) If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

(약 1:5, 새번역) 여러분 가운데 누구든지 지혜가 부족하거든, 모든 사람에게 아낌없이 주시고 나무라지 않으시는 하나님께 구하십시오. 그리하면 받을 것입니다.

🟦 2. Investigating with Wisdom / 지혜로 준비하는 리더십

Nehemiah 2:9–16 / 느헤미야 2:9–16

(Neh 2:12-13) “I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one I was riding on.”
“I went out by night and inspected the walls of Jerusalem that were broken down.”

(느 2:12-13, ) “밤에 수행원을 몇 명 데리고 순찰을 나섰다. 하나님이 나의 마음을 움직이셔서 예루살렘에서 일하도록 하신 것을, 나는 그 때까지 어느 누구에게도 말하지 아니하였다. 나에게 짐승이라고는, 내가 탄 것밖에 없었다.”
“나는 밤에 나가 예루살렘의 성벽이 무너진 것을 살펴보았다.”

Nehemiah quietly examined the walls before speaking. He quietly considered the mission God had placed on his heart. He didn’t act in haste but took time to understand the reality. Spiritual wisdom often requires patience and silence before action.

느헤미야는 먼저 조용히 무너진 성벽을 살폈습니다.
하나님이 자신의 마음에 주신 사명을 마음에 품고 조용히 살폈습니다.
성급하게 움직이지 않고, 상황을 깊이 이해했습니다.
영적 지혜는 행동보다 먼저 기다림과 관찰을 필요로 합니다.

Faith is not blind action — it is deep understanding, preparation, observation, and thoughtful obedience.
믿음은 무모한 행동이 아니라 깊은 이해와 준비와 관찰과 순종입니다.

🟧 3. Motivating the People / 사람들의 마음을 일으키는 리더십

Nehemiah 2:17–18 / 느헤미야 2:17–18

“Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem.”
“예루살렘 성벽을 함께 재건합시다.”

Nehemiah did not command the people — he inspired them. He shared what God had done in his life, and faith began to spread. True leaders move hearts, not by orders, but by testimony and example.

느헤미야는 명령하지 않았습니다. 그는 하나님이 자신에게 행하신 일을 나누며 백성의 믿음을 일으켰습니다.
참된 리더는 명령이 아니라 모범과 간증으로 사람의 마음을 움직입니다.

✨ Lesson / 교훈:
Motivation begins with vision and ends with shared faith.
동기 부여는 비전에서 시작되어 믿음의 연합으로 완성됩니다.

🟨 4. Application for 2025 / 2025년을 향한 적용

In Personal Life / 개인의 삶에서:
Pray before acting; seek God’s wisdom for your next step.
모든 일에 앞서 기도하십시오. 다음 걸음을 위해 하나님의 지혜를 구하십시오.

In Family / 가정에서:
Lead with love and patience; listen before you speak.
사랑과 인내로 섬기며, 말하기 전에 먼저 들어주십시오.

In Work and School / 직장과 학교에서:
Work with integrity and diligence so others may see God’s hand in you.
정직과 성실로 일하여, 당신의 삶 속에서 하나님의 손길이 드러나게 하십시오.

In Church / 교회에서:
Be a motivator of faith — say, “Let us rise up and build!”
믿음의 동기 부여자가 되어, “일어나 함께 세웁시다!” 라고 선포하십시오.

💬 Conclusion / 결론

Nehemiah’s leadership shows that great movements of God begin with prayer, wisdom, and encouragement.
His leadership rebuilt a city — and God can use your leadership to rebuild hearts, families, and communities.

    1. Introduction – From Prayer to Leadership

    The story of Nehemiah is a powerful picture of spiritual renewal and practical faith.
    In chapter 1, we saw Nehemiah as a man of prayer. He wept for his nation, confessed his sins, and sought God’s mercy. His prayer opened the door for God’s favor and set the foundation for everything that followed.

    In chapter 2:1–8, we learned that faith is often expressed in small steps of obedience.
    Nehemiah’s moment of courage before King Artaxerxes — that single conversation — was a turning point. It revealed that God’s gracious hand was upon him.

    Now, in Nehemiah 2:9–20, the story shifts from prayer to action, from personal faith to public leadership.
    Nehemiah moves beyond his private devotion and begins to lead others in rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem.

    This passage challenges us today — in our homes, our work, our schools, and our churches — to become motivating leaders who inspire others to rebuild what is broken, with faith, vision, and courage.

    2. Planning in Prayer (Nehemiah 2:1–10)

    Before Nehemiah ever touched a stone or gathered a team, he prayed.
    His leadership began in the secret place — not with a strategy meeting, but with prayer.

    When the king noticed his sadness, Nehemiah didn’t panic or rely on his words. He quietly lifted a prayer:

    “Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king.” (v.4–5)

    Even in that moment of tension, standing before one of the most powerful rulers on earth, Nehemiah depended on God.

    That single verse reveals a truth we must never forget:
    Real leadership begins in dependence on God, not self-confidence.

    We live in a culture that prizes quick decisions and bold action, but Nehemiah shows us that prayerful planning is not weakness — it is strength.
    He spent months preparing his heart before God so that, when the opportunity came, he was ready.

    For us, this means learning to begin each decision with prayer:

    • Before we make a big choice,

    • Before we start a project,

    • Before we speak to others —
      we pause and pray.

    When prayer shapes your plans, your plans will align with God’s will.

    3. Investigating with Wisdom (Nehemiah 2:11–16)

    When Nehemiah arrived in Jerusalem, he didn’t rush into rebuilding.
    Instead, he spent three quiet days observing, praying, and walking through the ruins.

    “I went out by night… and inspected the walls of Jerusalem that were broken down and its gates that had been destroyed by fire.” (v.13)

    Notice that Nehemiah went out at night. He didn’t announce his plans or seek attention. He didn’t react impulsively.
    He examined the situation carefully and understood the reality before taking action.

    That’s the heart of godly leadership — not just faith, but discernment.

    Many people are eager to act, but few take time to understand.
    Before you rebuild what’s broken in your life — whether it’s your relationship, your ministry, or your calling — you must first see clearly what needs to change.

    Nehemiah teaches us that faith is not blind enthusiasm; it is deep understanding, preparation, observation, and thoughtful obedience.


    He combined prayer with careful observation — a balance of spiritual dependence and practical wisdom.

    4. Motivating the People (Nehemiah 2:17–18)

    After praying and preparing, Nehemiah finally gathered the people.
    He said,

    “You see the trouble we are in… Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer suffer disgrace.” (v.17)

    He didn’t accuse or blame anyone. He didn’t say, “You have failed.”
    Instead, he said, “We are in this together.”

    Then he shared his testimony:

    “I told them how the hand of my God had been upon me for good.” (v.18)

    This is what motivated the people.
    When they heard how God had been working in Nehemiah’s life, their faith was renewed.

    They responded with courage:

    “They said, ‘Let us rise up and build!’ So they strengthened their hands for the good work.” (v.18)

    A motivating leader doesn’t just tell others what to do — he inspires them with his faith, his story, and his example.
    Nehemiah didn’t push people; he pulled them forward with vision.

    That is the difference between authority and influence.
    Authority commands.
    Influence inspires.

    As followers of Christ, every one of us is called to influence others — our families, our friends, our coworkers, our church.
    Leadership is not about position; it’s about faith that moves hearts.

    5. Facing Opposition with Confidence (Nehemiah 2:19–20)

    Whenever we begin God’s work, opposition will come.
    For Nehemiah, it came quickly from Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem — men who mocked and despised him.

    “They mocked us and ridiculed us. ‘What is this you are doing?’ they asked. ‘Are you rebelling against the king?’” (v.19)

    But Nehemiah didn’t argue or retaliate.
    He simply declared his confidence in God:

    “The God of heaven will give us success; we His servants will arise and build.” (v.20)

    This is the voice of faith.
    When God calls you to rebuild something broken, you will face criticism, misunderstanding, and discouragement — but God’s purpose cannot be stopped.

    Nehemiah didn’t rely on human approval. He trusted God’s promise.
    And because of that, the people continued the work.

    6. Application – Living as Motivating Leaders

    Nehemiah’s example speaks directly to us today.
    We live in a world that desperately needs faithful, motivating leaders — not loud voices or powerful figures, but people of prayer, integrity, and courage.

    Here’s what that means for us in 2025:

    • In your personal life: Don’t live reactively. Plan prayerfully. Ask, “Lord, what are You building in me?”

    • In your family: Lead by example. Encourage rather than control. Build trust before you give direction.

    • In your work or studies: Let excellence and honesty reveal God’s presence in your life.

    • In your church: Encourage others. Say, “Let us rise up and build.” Inspire unity and hope.

    You may not be rebuilding a wall, but you are building something — faith, character, relationships, or a community.
    And your leadership can make an eternal difference.

    7. Conclusion – God’s Hand and Our Response

    Nehemiah’s story reminds us that God’s hand is always at work — in prayer, in planning, in motivation, and even in opposition.
    He was just one man, but he believed that God’s call was bigger than his fear.

    The rebuilding of Jerusalem began not with bricks, but with faith.
    And the same is true for us.

    When you plan in prayer, act with wisdom, and motivate others through your example, God will use your leadership to rebuild what is broken — in your home, in your workplace, and in your generation.

    Let us, like Nehemiah, confess with faith:

    “The God of heaven will give us success; we His servants will arise and build.” (Nehemiah 2:20)
