“그러나 너희는 택하신 족속이요, 왕 같은 제사장들이요, 거룩한 나라요, 그의 소유가 된 백성이니, 이는 너희를 어두운 데서 불러내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 이의 아름다운 덕을 선포하게 하려 하심이라.”
1. 서론: 세례는 ‘정체성 회복’입니다
사랑하는 성도 여러분, 세례는 단지 물에 적시는 종교의식이 아닙니다.
세례는 예수와 연합하는 자리이며, 참된 인간성, 곧 하나님의 형상을 회복하는 사건입니다.
우리는 죄로 인해 하나님의 형상을 흐리게 하고 인간다움을 잃은 채 살아가고 있습니다.
그러나 세례를 통해, 우리는 예수 안에서 새롭게 태어나며, 하나님께서 창조하신 원래의 ‘사람다움’을 회복받습니다.
본문인 베드로전서 2장 9절은
세례받은 자들에게 세 가지 명확한 정체성을 선언합니다:
예언자(하나님의 말씀을 선포하는 자)
제사장(하나님과 사람 사이를 잇는 자)
왕(하나님의 정의와 자비로 다스리는 자)
이 세 가지는 단순한 역할 분담이 아니라, 예수 그리스도의 인격과 사역을 담아내는 새로운 존재의 방식입니다.
2. 첫 번째 정체성 – 예언자의 삶
예언자는 하나님의 시선으로 세상을 보고, 사람들의 잊혀진 정체성을 일깨우는 자입니다.
구약의 예언자들은 이렇게 외쳤습니다:
“너희가 누구인지 잊지 말라!”
“하나님께서 너희를 무엇을 위해 부르셨는지를 기억하라!”
오늘날 세례받은 우리도 예언자의 사명을 받은 자들입니다.
가정에서, 교회에서, 학교와 직장에서 하나님의 시선으로 세상을 보고 사랑 안에서 진리를 말해야 합니다.
📌 질문:
“당신은 지금 어디를 바라보고 있습니까?”
“당신이 외면하고 있는 진리는 무엇입니까?”
예언자의 삶은 날카로운 비판이 아니라 사랑으로 말하는 진리입니다.
진리를 말함으로, 공동체를 깨우고 하나님 앞으로 이끄는 것이 예언자의 사명입니다.
3. 두 번째 정체성 – 제사장의 삶
제사장은 하나님과 사람 사이에 다리를 놓는 사람입니다.
예수님은 완전한 대제사장으로서 우리의 죄를 짊어지고 십자가에서 중보하셨습니다.
세례받은 우리도 그분을 따라 중보자의 삶으로 부름받았습니다.
깨어진 관계 사이에 서서
상처받은 이웃을 품고
기도하고, 섬기며, 용서를 전하는 자
📌 적용:
당신이 품고 기도해야 할 사람은 누구입니까?
당신이 회복시켜야 할 관계는 어디입니까?
세례자는 관계를 회복시키는 제사장적 존재입니다.
4. 세 번째 정체성 – 왕의 삶
왕은 단지 권위를 가지는 자가 아닙니다. 하나님의 정의와 자비를 실현하는 지도자입니다.
예레미야 22장 16절은 이렇게 말합니다:
“그가 가난한 자와 궁핍한 자의 송사를 변호하였으므로 형통하였나니
이것이 나를 아는 것이 아니냐.”
세례자는 통치자가 되라는 부름을 받은 것이 아닙니다.
공의로 판단하고, 자비로 품으며, 사랑으로 섬기는 자가 되는 것입니다.
📌 예시:
가정에서는 자녀를 공의와 자비로 양육하는 ‘섬기는 왕’
교회에서는 연약한 자를 보호하는 ‘섬기는 왕’
세상에서는 진리를 행하는 ‘섬기는 왕’
세례자는 하나님의 다스림을 삶으로 드러내는 사람입니다.
5. 세 가지 정체성은 통합된 삶입니다
예언자만 되면 비판적이게 됩니다.
제사장만 되면 진실을 덮는 화해만 추구합니다.
왕만 되면 통제하고 결과 중심의 삶에 빠집니다.
하지만 예수님은
진리를 말하셨고, 중보하셨으며, 정의로 다스리셨습니다.
📌 세례받은 우리는
예언자적 눈으로 보고, 제사장적 마음으로 품고, 왕적 삶으로 살아가야 합니다.
6. 결론: 하나님의 정체성을 입은 새 사람
여전히 우리는 약하고 죄를 짓습니다. 하지만 세례는 우리를 하나님의 사랑 안에 고정시킵니다.
창세기 첫 장면에서 혼돈 위에 성령이 운행하셨듯이, 오늘도 혼란스러운 우리의 삶 위에 성령께서 운행하시며 말씀하십니다:
“너는 내 사랑하는 자녀다.
내가 너를 기뻐하노라.”
사랑하는 여러분, 세례는 새로운 출발입니다.
이제, 예언자처럼 말하십시오. 제사장처럼 기도하십시오. 왕처럼 사랑으로 다스리십시오.
이것이 세례를 통해 회복된 당신의 정체성입니다.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession,
that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”
1. Introduction: Baptism is the Recovery of True Identity
Dear brothers and sisters, Baptism is not merely a ritual.
It is a declaration, a divine event where you are united with Christ and receive a new identity.
In baptism, we are not just getting wet;
we are dying to sin and rising with Christ.
And in that union with Jesus, we recover our true humanity—the image of God that was distorted by sin.
The Bible teaches us that those who are baptized are no longer defined by their past or by the world,
but are now defined by who they are in Christ.
1 Peter 2:9 beautifully summarizes this identity:
We are…
A chosen people,
A royal priesthood,
A holy nation,
And God’s special possession.
These are not just poetic phrases—they are God’s divine calling upon your life. Today, we’ll focus on three core identities: Prophet, Priest, and King.
2. First Identity: The Prophetic Life
To be a prophet is not just to speak of the future. It is to see the world through God’s eyes and speak truth in love to a world that is confused about who it is.
Prophets remind people of their identity. They wake up the church from spiritual slumber.
Today, as baptized believers, you are prophets in your families, in your workplaces, and in your community.
Ask yourself:
What truth am I called to speak today?
Whom is God calling me to encourage or awaken?
Being a prophet doesn’t mean being judgmental. It means being courageous in speaking truth with grace,
so that others may return to God.
3. Second Identity: The Priestly Life
A priest stands in the gap. Between God and people. Between brokenness and healing.
Jesus is our great high priest, and now, you and I—baptized believers—are called to a priestly life.
This means:
Praying for others
Serving with compassion
Helping restore broken relationships
Do you know someone who feels far from God?
Someone whose heart is broken or wounded?
As a priest, you carry them in your heart.
You intercede for them in prayer. You create spaces for grace and healing.The baptized believer lives a life of intercession and reconciliation.
4. Third Identity: The Royal Life
God also calls us to live like kings—not to rule with power, but to lead with justice, mercy, and humility.
Jeremiah 22:16 says:
“He defended the cause of the poor and needy…
Is that not what it means to know Me?”
To live as royalty in God’s kingdom means:
To protect the weak
To uphold justice
To lead with self-giving love
In your home, in your church, in your world—
you are called to lead by serving, to influence through integrity. The baptized believer is a witness to God’s reign—not by domination, but by sacrificial love.
5. Living as an Integrated Person
Some live only as prophets—speaking truth but lacking love. Others live only as priests—caring deeply but avoiding confrontation. Still others act as kings—trying to fix everything but forgetting humility.
But Jesus lived all three perfectly.
He spoke truth (Prophet),
He interceded for us (Priest),
He reigned with justice and compassion (King).
To follow Jesus is to embody all three identities in a united way.
6. Conclusion: You Are God’s Beloved
Even as we try to live this out, we fall short. We make mistakes. But baptism anchors us in grace.
At Jesus’ baptism, the Father declared:
“You are My beloved Son, in You I am well pleased.”
When you were baptized, that same voice resounded over you:
“You are My child. I love you. I delight in you.”
This is your identity. Not because you earned it, but because you were baptized into Christ.
So today, live as a prophet who speaks truth in love, a priest who intercedes with grace, and a king who leads with compassion.
This is what it means to be baptized.
This is your new life.
Live it boldly, and joyfully, in Christ.
