“「1」 무엇 때문에 여러분 가운데 싸움이나 분쟁이 일어납니까? 여러분의 지체들 안에서 싸우고 있는 육신의 욕심에서 생기는 것이 아닙니까?
「2」 여러분은 욕심을 부려도 얻지 못하면 살인을 하고, 탐내어도 가지지 못하면 다투고 싸웁니다. 여러분이 얻지 못하는 것은 구하지 않기 때문이요,
「3」 구하여도 얻지 못하는 것은 자기가 쾌락을 누리는 데에 쓰려고 잘못 구하기 때문입니다.
「4」 간음하는 사람들이여, 세상과 벗함이 하나님과 등지는 일임을 알지 못합니까? 누구든지 세상의 친구가 되려고 하는 사람은 하나님의 원수가 되는 것입니다.
「5」 "하나님께서는 우리 안에 살게 하신 그 영을 질투하실 정도로 그리워하신다"라는 성경 말씀을 여러분은 헛된 것으로 생각합니까?
「6」 그러나 하나님께서는 더 큰 은혜를 주십니다. 그러므로 성경에 이르기를 "하나님께서는 교만한 자들을 물리치시고, 겸손한 사람들에게 은혜를 주신다" 하고 말합니다.
「7」 그러므로 하나님께 복종하고, 악마를 물리치십시오. 그리하면 악마는 달아날 것입니다.
「8」 하나님께로 가까이 가십시오. 그리하면 하나님께서 가까이 오실 것입니다. 죄인들이여, 손을 깨끗이 하십시오. 두 마음을 품은 사람들이여, 마음을 순결하게 하십시오.
「9」 여러분은 괴로워하십시오. 슬퍼하십시오. 우십시오. 여러분의 웃음을 슬픔으로 바꾸십시오. 기쁨을 근심으로 바꾸십시오.
「10」 주님 앞에서 자신을 낮추십시오. 그리하면 주님께서 여러분을 높여주실 것입니다.”

「3」 구하여도 받지 못함은 정욕으로 쓰려고 잘못 구하기 때문이라
「4」 간음한 여인들아 세상과 벗된 것이 하나님과 원수 됨을 알지 못하느냐 그런즉 누구든지 세상과 벗이 되고자 하는 자는 스스로 하나님과 원수 되는 것이니라
「5」 너희는 하나님이 우리 속에 거하게 하신 성령이 시기하기까지 사모한다 하신 말씀을 헛된 줄로 생각하느냐
「6」 그러나 더욱 큰 은혜를 주시나니 그러므로 일렀으되 하나님이 교만한 자를 물리치시고 겸손한 자에게 은혜를 주신다 하였느니라
「7」 그런즉 너희는 하나님께 복종할지어다 마귀를 대적하라 그리하면 너희를 피하리라
「8」 하나님을 가까이하라 그리하면 너희를 가까이하시리라 죄인들아 손을 깨끗이 하라 두 마음을 품은 자들아 마음을 성결하게 하라
「9」 슬퍼하며 애통하며 울지어다 너희 웃음을 애통으로, 너희 즐거움을 근심으로 바꿀지어다
「10」 주 앞에서 낮추라 그리하면 주께서 너희를 높이시리라”

“「1」 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?
「2」 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.
「3」 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
「4」 You adulterous people,* don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. / *An allusion to covenant unfaithfulness; see Hosea 3:1.
「5」 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us*? / *Or that the spirit he caused to dwell in us envies intensely; or that the Spirit he caused to dwell in us longs jealously
「6」 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”* / *Prov. 3:34
「7」 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
「8」 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
「9」 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.
「10」 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”

제목: 세상과 벗이 되고자 하는 자

🔹 1. 들어가는 말: ‘벗’이라는 단어의 의미
‘벗’은 친밀하고 따뜻한 관계를 의미함.
하지만 본문에서 말하는 “세상과 벗이 되고자 하는 자”는
하나님과 원수가 되는 길임을 분명히 함.
🔹 2. 세상과 벗된 교회의 모습
(1) 싸우는 정욕으로 가득한 교회
겉으로는 하나님을 예배하지만, 속으로는 시기와 다툼, 분열과 혐오가 가득함.
“욕심을 내어도 얻지 못하고, 시기하여도 능히 취하지 못하나니…” (v.2)
기도는 하지만 정욕으로 쓰려고 잘못 구함 (v.3)
하나님의 뜻이 아닌 자기만을 위한 기도, 다른 이를 정죄하는 기도로 변질됨.
(2) 영적 간음 — 세상과 연합, 하나님과의 단절
“간음하는 여자들아” (v.4)
→ 육체적 간음이 아니라, 영적 배신을 의미성령은 “시기하기까지 우리를 사모”하심 (v.5)
→ 하나님의 사랑은 거룩하고도 열렬함.그러나 교회는 마귀의 유혹에 속아 스스로 진리를 포기함.
🔹 3. 마귀를 대적하라 (v.7–8)
마귀는 억지로 뺏지 않음.
→ 우리가 유혹에 스스로 넘어감.새가 벌레를 얻기 위해 스스로 깃털을 팔아 쥐의 먹이가 된 예화처럼,
교회도 권력·부·명예를 위해 하늘의 가치를 하나씩 포기함.“하나님께 복종하라, 마귀를 대적하라”는 명령은
사랑의 부르심이자 회복의 시작임.
🔹 4. 참된 회개: 손을 깨끗이 하고, 마음을 성결하게 하라 (v.8–10)
“슬퍼하며 애통하며 울지어다”
→ 지금은 웃고 즐길 때가 아니라, 자신의 영적 상태를 슬퍼할 때회개는 단순한 감정이 아니라, 깊은 내면의 방향 전환임.
“두 마음을 품은 자들아, 마음을 성결케 하라”
→ 하나님과 세상을 동시에 붙들 수 없음.낮추라, 그러면 하나님이 높이실 것이다 (v.10)
🔚 결론: 다시 하나님께로
지금이 바로 교회가 눈물로 회개하고, 겸손히 주님 앞에 돌아갈 때입니다.
하나님께 가까이 가면,
그분이 우리에게 가까이 오십니다.교회가 세상과 벗하기를 끊고 예수님을 따를 때, 하나님은 교회를 다시 높이시고 회복시키실 것입니다.

정욕으로 구하는 기도에서 벗어나게 하소서
하나님께 가까이 가고, 마귀를 대적하게 하소서

우리 교회가 세상의 친구가 아니라, 하나님의 친구, 예수님의 제자로 살아가게 하소서

📖 Sermon Title: “Whoever Wishes to Be a Friend of the World”
Text: James 4:1–10
👋 1. Introduction: What Kind of Friend Are We Talking About?
The word “buddy” is warm and familiar. In Korean, beot means friend or companion—something close and trusted. I even remember a Christian magazine from my childhood called New Buddy, which made the word feel even more special to me. And in English, “bud” becomes “buddy,” which sounds just as close.
But what about a phrase like:
“A church that is not friends with the world”?
It might sound cold, even unloving.
Why would the church turn its back on the world?
Aren’t we supposed to love the world like Jesus did? Didn’t God send His Son into the world because He loved it?
Absolutely. But James is warning us about something else—not the people of the world, but the values of a broken world. When he says:
“Friendship with the world is enmity with God,”
he’s talking about pride, greed, envy, and selfish ambition. These are not the values of God’s Kingdom.
And sadly, the early church began to fall into those worldly patterns. They didn’t just live in the world—they started to live like the world. And that’s exactly what James is confronting.
💥 2. Conflicting Desires Inside the Church
So what did the early church look like when it became “friends” with the world?
James says it was full of conflicting passions—people wanting their own way, fighting, competing, and putting themselves first.
“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?” (v.1)
The church was full of arguments, pride, jealousy, and bitterness.
They were praising God with their mouths, but cursing their brothers and sisters with the same lips.
Sweet water and bitter water were coming from the same spring.
We’ve probably heard this verse a lot:
“You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive because you ask with wrong motives.” (v.2–3)
We sometimes think that means, “You didn’t pray hard enough,” or “You prayed selfishly.”
But James is talking about something deeper:
The early church prayed to serve their own agenda—not to love, not to bless others, but to get ahead, win, or even tear others down.
And James is saying:
That’s what friendship with the world looks like—when your faith becomes all about you.
🛡️ 3. Resist the Devil and Return to God
James calls the church “adulterous people.”
Not because of literal adultery—but because their hearts were no longer loyal to God.
They had started flirting with the world.
James says:
“Do you think Scripture says without reason that the Spirit He caused to live in us envies intensely?” (v.5)
God doesn’t want to share our hearts with the world.
He loves us too much to settle for part-time loyalty.
Here’s a story shared by Pastor No Jin-joon at a revival service:
There was a bird that really wanted to eat a worm. But a mouse had the worm.
The mouse said, “Give me one of your feathers, and I’ll give you the worm.”
So the bird gave a feather. Then another. And another.
Eventually, the bird had no feathers left. It couldn’t fly anymore. It fell to the ground—and the mouse ate it.
That’s how the enemy works.
The mouse didn’t rip off the feathers. The bird gave them away—little by little.
That’s what happens when we trade God’s Kingdom values for the world’s “worms”—power, status, wealth, reputation.
We stop flying. We stop soaring.
We forget who we are.
🧎 4. Cleanse Your Hands, You Sinners
James calls out to the church:
“Wash your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn, and wail.” (v.8–9)
Why such intense language?
Because the church wasn’t just drifting—they were in danger.
And James is saying:
Now is the time to cry. Now is the time to repent.
Sometimes, we’ve gone so dry inside that we don’t even realize how far we’ve fallen.
But James says true repentance means:
Letting go of double-mindedness (serving both God and the world),
Getting serious about what we’ve allowed into our lives,
And grieving over our spiritual condition.
This isn’t about shame—it’s about turning back.
About getting honest before God.
And starting fresh from the cross and the resurrection.
🙌 5. Conclusion: He Will Lift You Up
James ends with this promise:
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” (v.10)
If we let go of selfish ambition,
If we reject the temptations of the enemy,
If we repent honestly and return to God—
Then God will not leave us in the dirt.
He will lift us up.
He will rebuild His church—not one that looks like the world,
but one that looks like Jesus.
🕊️ Final Word
May Worship Frontier Church be that kind of church.
A church that doesn’t sell its feathers.
A church that flies.
A church that reflects the glory of the Lamb, Jesus Christ.
