“「4」 이 말을 듣고서, 나는 주저앉아서 울었다. 나는 슬픔에 잠긴 채로 며칠 동안 금식하면서, 하늘의 하나님께 기도하여
「5」 아뢰었다.주 하늘의 하나님, 위대하고 두려운 하나님, 주님을 사랑하는 이들과 세운 언약, 주님의 계명을 지키는 이들과 세운 언약을 지키시며 은혜를 베푸시는 하나님,
「6」 이제 이 종이 밤낮 주님 앞에서 주님의 종 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 드리는 이 기도에 귀를 기울이시고, 살펴 주십시오. 우리 이스라엘 자손이 주님을 거역하는 죄를 지은 것을 자복합니다. 저와 저의 집안까지도 죄를 지었습니다.
「7」 우리가 주님께 매우 큰 잘못을 저질렀습니다. 주님의 종 모세를 시키시어, 우리에게 내리신 계명과 율례와 규례를 우리가 지키지 않았습니다.
「8」 주님의 종 모세를 시키시어 하신 말씀을 기억하여 주십시오. 우리가 죄를 지으면, 주님께서 우리를 여러 나라에 흩어 버리겠지만,
「9」 우리가 주님께로 돌아와서, 주님의 계명을 지키고 실천하면, 쫓겨난 우리가 하늘 끝에 가 있을지라도, 주님께서 거기에서 우리를 한데 모아서, 주님의 이름을 두려고 택한 곳으로 돌아가게 하겠다고 하신 그 말씀을, 이제 기억하여 주십시오.
「10」 이들은 주님께서 크신 힘과 강한 팔로 건져내신 주님의 종이며, 주님의 백성입니다.
「11」 주님, 종의 간구를 들어주십시오. 주님의 이름을 진심으로 두려워하는 주님의 종들의 간구에 귀를 기울여 주십시오. 이제 주님의 종이 하는 모든 일을 형통하게 하여 주시고 왕에게 자비를 입게 하여 주십시오.그 때에 나는 왕에게 술잔을 받들어 올리는 일을 맡아 보고 있었다.”

“「4」 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.
「5」 Then I said: “Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments,
「6」 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you.
「7」 We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.
「8」 “Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations,
「9」 but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.’
「10」 “They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand.
「11」 Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.” I was cupbearer to the king.”

1. 무너진 성벽과 기도의 시작 / The Broken Wall and the Beginning of Prayer
느헤미야는 예루살렘 성벽이 무너졌다는 소식을 듣고 금식하며 기도했습니다.
Nehemiah heard that the wall of Jerusalem was broken and fasted and prayed.
성벽이 무너진 것은 수치와 위협을 의미했습니다.
A broken wall meant shame and vulnerability.
오늘 우리 삶에도 무너진 영역이 있습니다: 가정, 믿음, 공동체.
Today, we also face broken areas: family, faith, and community.
2. 기도의 바른 이해 / The Right Understanding of Prayer
기도는 단순한 말이 아니라 성령의 조명 안에서 드려야 합니다.
Prayer is not mere words, but must be offered in the light of the Spirit.
기도는 먼저 기도하는 자 자신을 변화시킵니다.
Prayer first transforms the one who prays.
기도자는 하나님의 시선과 감정을 품는 사람입니다.
A person of prayer carries God’s perspective and emotion.
3. 기도와 감정 / Prayer and Emotion
메마른 감정으로 기도가 힘들 때가 있지만, 바로 그때 기도가 가장 필요합니다.
Sometimes prayer feels hard in dry emotions, but that is when it is most needed.
성령께서 주시는 감정은 하나님의 시선과 연결됩니다.
The emotion given by the Spirit connects us to God’s perspective.
감정은 영적 온도계이며, 기도를 더 깊게 합니다.
Emotion is a spiritual thermometer and deepens prayer.
4. 느헤미야의 정체성과 비젼 / Nehemiah’s Identity and Vision
그는 제국의 왕을 모시는 술관원(안정된 지위, 성공)이었지만, 하나님의 주시는비전은 고향의 성벽의 재건이었습니다.
He was the cupbearer to the king (*stable position, success), but God’s vision for him was the rebuilding of the wall.
우리의 목표는 세상 속에서의 성 있지만, 비전은 하나님께서 주십니다.
Our goals may be in the world, but our vision comes from God.
기도 가운데 하나님의 뜻을 이루는 비전이 주어집니다.
In prayer, God gives us the vision to fulfill His will.
💡 결론 / Conclusion
기도는 공동체를 세우고 무너진 곳을 회복하게 합니다.
Prayer restores what is broken and builds up the community.
기도는 하나님의 뜻을 바꾸는 능력이 있습니다. 그러나 더 중요한 것은 “누가 기도하는가”입니다.
Prayer has the power to change God's will. But more importantly, who prays?
우리는 연습해야 합니다: 중보기도의 훈련, 하나님의 시선으로 보는 훈련.
We must practice: the discipline of intercessory prayer, the discipline of seeing from God's perspective.
결과를 걱정하기보다, 오늘 내 자리에서 기도하고, 기본기를 지키며, 전문성과 탁월성을 위해 힘쓰는 삶을 삽시다.
Rather than worrying about the outcome, let us live a life of prayer, focusing on the fundamentals, and striving for expertise and excellence.
성령께서 우리의 메마른 기도를 불쌍히 여기시고, 느헤미야처럼 기도의 사람으로 세워 주실 것입니다.
The Holy Spirit will take pity on our dry prayers and, like Nehemiah, will raise us up as people of pray

📖 Sermon: “Faith with the Feelings of Prayer”
Text: Nehemiah 1:4–11
1. The Broken Wall and the Beginning of Prayer
The keyword in Nehemiah’s story is the “broken wall.” The collapse of Jerusalem’s walls meant that protection was gone, and the people lived in shame and constant threat.
In our lives too, there are walls that have collapsed—our homes, our communities, even our faith. Prayer begins when we see the ruins clearly and bring them before God.
2. The Right Understanding of Prayer
True prayer is not just words or outward expressions. It requires the light of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit convicts us of our own sins, reveals the sins of the community, and shows us God’s heart for the world.
A person of prayer learns to see people and situations with God’s eyes and God’s heart. Prayer changes first the one who prays.
3. Prayer and Emotion
Prayer is not dry formality—it involves the heart. When we pray with emotion, prayer often flows more easily. But sometimes we feel spiritually dry, and prayer seems difficult. That is precisely when prayer is most necessary.
When the Holy Spirit gives us God’s perspective, emotions follow. Emotion in prayer is like a spiritual thermometer. The person of prayer carries God’s sorrow, longs for God’s glory, and takes responsibility for souls.
4. Nehemiah’s Identity and Vision
Nehemiah was the cupbearer to the king of the greatest empire of his time. He had influence, power, and a secure position. Yet God gave him a vision—not to climb higher in the empire, but to rebuild the broken walls of his homeland.
Our goals may be worldly success, but true vision comes from God. In prayer, He gives us not just goals but a vision to accomplish His will.
5. Application and Conclusion
Prayer has the power to change God’s direction, but even more important is who prays. God is seeking men and women who will stand in the gap.
That means we must practice intercession. We must train ourselves to see with God’s eyes. Instead of worrying about results, we are called to pray faithfully where we are, to keep the basics of faith, and to strive for diligence, excellence, and devotion.
When we pray this way, the Holy Spirit will have mercy on us and raise us up, just as He raised Nehemiah, to be people of prayer who rebuild what has been broken.
