저희 부부는 이번 가정교회 목회자 컨퍼런스에서 나지혜 전도사님이 강의하신 "다음 세대 길라잡이"를 수강하였습니다. 컨퍼런스 참여자들은 각 교회에 필요한 강의들을 듣게 되는데, 90분 강의를 5번 듣습니다. 나지혜 전도사님은 본래 언어치료사로 일하시는데, 올랜도 비젼교회에서 어린이 사역을 하면서 신학도 공부하신 분입니다. 이번 강의를 통해서, 교회 어린이 사역에 대한 실제적인 내용들을 배우게 되었습니다. 대부분의 내용들이 매우 구체적이어서 우리교회에도 적절한 준비과정을 거쳐 실행할 수 있을 것 같습니다.
저는 이번 컨퍼런스를 통해 이제 우리교회도 우리 자녀들과 청년들을 위해 좀더 구체적이고 실제적인 목표를 정하고 투자를 해야겠다는 마음을 갖게 되었습니다. 본래 이 과목의 이름에는 "다음 세대"라는 표현이 들어갔는데, 이제는 이 말을 쓰지 않는다고 합니다. 우리는 이 단어 대신에, 이제 우리는 우리의 자녀들과 청년들을 "현재를 살아가는 New Generations"라고 부르기로 하였습니다. New Generations을 위한 사역은 개별 교회의 몫도 있겠지만, 교회들이 연합하여 힘을 모아야 합니다. "New Generations"를 위한 북미지역의 연합 사역도 활발하게 진행되고 있습니다. 본래 "어린이 목자 컨퍼런스"라고 이름 지어졌던, "New Gen Shepherds Conference"가 7월 17-20에 올랜도 비젼교회에서 열립니다. 이번에 5월말에 있는 3개 교회 연합 "전교인 수련회"도 우리 자녀들과 청년들을 위한 실제적인 발걸음이 될 것입니다.
저는 아래의 글을 읽으면서, 보스턴에 살고 있는 우리 자녀들과 청년들에게 좀더 실제적이구 구체적인 목표와 성경적 가치관을 심어 주어야 겠다는 도전을 받았습니다. 저 뿐만 아니라 모든 성도님들과 같은 마음을 가지고 주님께서 지혜와 명철과 용기를 주시도록 기도해 주시고 함께 해 주시길 부탁 드립니다.

"It's "New Generations", not "Next Generations"."
My wife and I attended "Guiding the Next Generation," taught by Jihye Na, at the recent House Church Pastors Conference. Conference attendees receive five 90-minute lectures that are tailored to the needs of each church. Jihye Na is a speech therapist by profession, but she also studied theology while working in children's ministry at Vision Church in Orlando. Through this lecture, we learned practical information about children's ministry in the church. Most of the content was very specific and I think we can implement it in our church with proper preparation.
I am now inspired to set more specific and realistic goals and investments in our children and young adults. The name of the course originally had the phrase "next generation" in it, but we no longer use that phrase. Instead, we now refer to our children and young adults as "New Generations in the Present". While ministry to New Generations can be the work of individual churches, it is also the work of churches working together. There is a thriving North American ministry to "New Generations" that is being organized. The "New Gen Shepherds Conference," originally called the "Children's Shepherds Conference," will be held July 17-20 at Vision Church in Orlando. A three-church "All Church Retreat" at the end of May will also be a practical step forward for our children and young adults.
As I read the following article, I was challenged to instill more practical, concrete goals and biblical values in our children and young adults in Boston. I ask you to join me and all the members of the church in praying for the Lord to give us wisdom, clarity, and courage.
- Pastor Lee Kyung Joon, who serves as the director of a Korean family home: "Down Church prayed for God to give me 10 people of each age, and gave me specific and practical instructions to find a spouse in my fourth year of college after going to the army, study for one more year, and aim to get married after one year of employment (usually at age 26), but with three criteria: ability (life skills), character, and faith (finding someone in the same church with the same biblical values as yourself).
