(요 15:1-12, 새번역) [1] "나는 참 포도나무요, 내 아버지는 농부이시다.
[2] 내게 붙어 있으면서도 열매를 맺지 못하는 가지는, 아버지께서 다 잘라버리시고, 열매를 맺는 가지는 더 많은 열매를 맺게 하시려고 손질하신다.
[3] 너희는, 내가 너희에게 말한 그 말로 말미암아 이미 깨끗하게 되었다.
[4] 내 안에 머물러 있어라. 그리하면 나도 너희 안에 머물러 있겠다. 가지가 포도나무에 붙어 있지 아니하면 스스로 열매를 맺을 수 없는 것과 같이, 너희도 내 안에 머물러 있지 아니하면 열매를 맺을 수 없다.
[5] 나는 포도나무요, 너희는 가지이다. 사람이 내 안에 머물러 있고, 내가 그 안에 머물러 있으면, 그는 많은 열매를 맺는다. 너희는 나를 떠나서는 아무것도 할 수 없다.
[6] 사람이 내 안에 머물러 있지 아니하면, 그는 쓸모 없는 가지처럼 버림을 받아서 말라 버린다. 사람들이 그것을 모아다가, 불에 던져서 태워 버린다.

[7] 너희가 내 안에 머물러 있고, 내 말이 너희 안에 머물러 있으면, 너희가 무엇을 구하든지 다 그대로 이루어질 것이다.
[8] 너희가 열매를 많이 맺어서 내 제자가 되면, 이것으로 내 아버지께서 영광을 받으실 것이다.

[9] 아버지께서 나를 사랑하신 것과 같이, 나도 너희를 사랑하였다. 너희는 내 사랑 안에 머물러 있어라.
[10] 너희가 내 계명을 지키면, 내 사랑 안에 머물러 있을 것이다. 그것은 마치 내가 내 아버지의 계명을 지켜서, 그 사랑 안에 머물러 있는 것과 같다.

「2」 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes* so that it will be even more fruitful. (*The Greek for he prunes also means he cleans.)
「3」 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
「4」 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
「5」 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
「6」 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.

「7」 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
「8」 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

「9」 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.
「10」 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

「11」 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
「12」 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”

하나님은 한 사람을 부르셔서 하나님의 꿈을 이루기 위해 시작하십니다. 하나님의 부르심을 받은 그 사람은 "첫 사랑"을 경험하고 "첫 행위"로 하나님을 따르게 됩니다.
하나님은 하나님의 사람들의 가슴과 마음에 하나님의 사랑과 말씀을 넣어주시는 분입니다.

이번 2024-2025 새학년과 새학기를 맞이하여, 주님이 여러분에 주신 첫사랑을 회복하시고, 첫행위로 온전한 예배를 드리는데 힘쓰시길 바랍니다. 교회 공동체적으로 “New Beginnings, Boton 2024-25”에 힘써 참여하시길 부탁 드립니다.

10. “내 말이 너희 안에 머물러 있으면” (4절, 7절)

• 하나님의 꿈을 이루기 위해서는 “주님의 말씀이 내 안에 머물러 있는지를 살펴보아야 합니다”
  >> To fulfil God's dreams, I must "examine whether His word abides in me"

• 주님의 말씀이 내 안에 머물러 있기 위해서 몸으로 익혀야 합니다.
  >> In order for the word of the Lord to remain in me, I must cultivate it.(You have to cook it with your body.)

(계 2:1-5, 새번역) “「1」 "에베소 교회의 심부름꾼에게 이렇게 써 보내라. '오른손에 일곱 별을 쥐시고, 일곱 금 촛대 사이를 거니시는 분이 말씀하신다.
「2」 나는 네가 한 일과 네 수고와 인내를 알고 있다. 또 나는, 네가 악한 자들을 참고 내버려 둘 수 없었던 것과, 사도가 아니면서 사도라고 자칭하는 자들을 시험하여 그들이 거짓말쟁이임을 밝혀 낸 것도, 알고 있다.

15. 하나님이 한 사람을 부르실 때, 특징이 2가지가 있다.

- 둘째는 "처음 행위"를 하게 하심

- First, He gave us "first love," putting it in our hearts and engraving it on our tablets.
- Second, He gives us our "first deeds."

워십프론티어 신자들은 주님께서 자신을 거룩함으로 부르셨다는 것을 받아들여서, 주위 사람들이 아직 보지 못한 것을 보여주는 거룩한 예술가로 살아가시길 축복합니다. 아직 보지 못한 세상의 아름다움과 깊이, 아직 보지 못한 하나님의 따뜻한 사랑과 지혜, 그리고 아직 보지 못한 자신의 모습을 보게 하는 데 하나님과 사람앞에서 쓰임받기를 부탁 드립니다.

May you embrace that the Lord has called you to holiness, and may you live as a holy artist, showing those around you what they have not yet seen. May they be used by God and people to help them see the beauty and depth of the world they have not yet seen, the warmth and wisdom of God they have not yet seen, and the parts of themselves they have not yet seen.

10. 성경을 함께 읽는 유익

/ 10. The Benefits of Reading the Bible Together

신자가 말씀을 함께 읽고 듣는 것과 함께 성찬에 참여하는 것은 교회 공동체를 세우는 기초가 된다. 성경을 함께 읽는 것은 성경적인 교회, 신약교회를 세우는 유익을 갖게 합니다.
Believers reading and hearing the Word together and participating in the sacraments together are the basis for building the church community. Reading the Bible together has the benefit of building a biblical church, a New Testament church.

신자는 예수를 따르고 예수를 보고 배우는 제자의 삶을 살게 됩니다.

제자의 삶의 중요한 특징은 거룩함입니다.

거룩함은 거룩하게 보이는 것을 모아놓은 모습(명사)이 아니라, 거룩함의 길로 인도하는 주님의 인도하심을 힘써 따라가는 동작(동사)입니다.

사도 바울은 주님의 영이 신자들을 점점 더 큰 영광안에서 변화하도록 인도한다고 고백합니다. 그리하여 진정한 거룩하다는 것은 세상을 넓히는 것이며 세상에 참여하는 것입니다. 신자는 자신의 힘과 능력과 지혜로 거룩함을 드러낼 수 없습니다.

Sermon summaries

As a believer, you live a life of discipleship, following Jesus and learning from him. An important characteristic of the life of a disciple is holiness.

Holiness is not a collection of things that appear to be holy (noun), but an action (verb) of following the Lord's leading in the way of holiness.

The apostle Paul confesses that the Spirit of the Lord leads believers to be transformed into ever-increasing glory, so to be truly holy is to be world-expanding and world-participating. The believer cannot manifest holiness in his own strength, power, and wisdom.

Being Holy begins with being captivated by the excellence of God in every aspect of one's life, so much so that Rowan Williams says, "To be holy is to be so captivated by the excellence of God that it becomes the believer's primary concern, shines through the believer as light, and shines forth to others."

May the believers at WorshipFrontier embrace that the Lord has called them to holiness and live as holy artists, showing those around them what they have not yet seen. May they be used by God and people to help them see the beauty and depth of the world they have not yet seen, the warmth and wisdom of God they have not yet known, and the parts of themselves they have not yet seen.

2. Review

By going the way of the cross, Jesus sanctifies the believers of the WorkFrontier and calls them saints, God's holy people.

Holy people are those who bring forth 'joy'. Holy people see God bigger, they see the world God made more deeply, and they are a force for good in the lives of those they live with.

Live as a little Jesus. Live each day with courage in the heart of God (the Father's heart) who sees you as little Jesus.

22-1. How do I become holy? (the excellence(extraordinariness) of God)
Holiness is manifested when the believer is not conscious of it, and that is why there are no self-help books that make you holy.

Becoming holy is to be so taken over by the excellence(extraordinariness) of God that that excellence becomes the believer's primary concern, rising up through the believer as light to shine on others.

- 위대한 예술가(음악가, 시인, 화가)는 자기 자신을 내세우지 않으면서 주변에 있는 다른 사람들이 아직 보지못하고 있는 것들을 새롭게 보게하는 일을 합니다.

이들은 주변 사람들이 놓칠 수 밖에 없는 것들, 곧 다른 방법으로는 볼 수 없는 여러 차원과 깊이를 보도록 도와줍니다. (비록 그들은 전인격적으로 성숙한 사람이 아닐 수 있음에도 불구하고 그런 일을 합니다.)

- 진정 거룩한 사람은 위대한 예술가들과 비슷합니다. 거룩한 신자는 역시 자신들의 삶을 통해 예술가들이 예술 작품을 창조해 내듯 뭔가 놀라운 일을 드러내며, 더 큰 세상을 보여주고, 세로운 빛과 새 풍경을 열어 보입니다.

*30. like a musician, artist, or poet

- Great artists (musicians, poets, painters) do things that make others around them see things they don't already see, without putting themselves forward.

They help others around them see things that they would otherwise miss-things that have multiple dimensions and depths that they can't see otherwise. (They do this despite the fact that they may not be holistically mature people.)

- A truly holy person is similar to a great artist. Holy believers reveal something wonderful with their lives, just as artists create works of art, showing us a larger world, opening up new light and new vistas.

32. 거룩하도록 부름을 받았다.

신자는 모두 거룩하도록 부름받았습니다. 예수의 영 안에서 거룩함을 이룰 수 있는 능력을 받았습니다. 예수의 영은 확신을 품고 진실하게 기도할 수 있는 능력을 부어 주십니다.

32. Called to be holy.

Every believer is called to holiness. In the Spirit of Jesus, we are empowered to achieve holiness. The Spirit of Jesus empowers us to pray with confidence and sincerity.

The apostle Paul says that the Lord, who is "the Spirit," removes the frown from the believer's face and transforms the believer, leading him or her to "more and more glory." (2 Corinthians 3:16-18)

33. 이제 시작합시다.

Believers can begin the path of holiness by living in two ways

Looking - looking at Jesus, looking at what God is like, looking at the gospel, and all that means;

Exploring - exploring where human being are, what therir needs are, what they are calling us to do, how we may help make them more human.

제자도의 4번째 특징은 거룩함(being holy)입니다. 성경에는 “거룩”이라는 단어가 1000번 이상 나옵니다. 구약의 거룩은 "신발을 벗는 자리" "특별한 제사장만이 들어가는 자리" "죽을 수도 있는 위험한 자리"와 관련하여 거룩이 쓰입니다. 그러나 신약은 교회안에 있는 신자들을 향하여 "거룩한 백성(God's holy people)" "성도(saints)"라는 표현을 합니다. 그렇기 때문에 우리 워십프론티어 교회안에 있는 신자들도 신약의 표현에 따르면 "거룩함"을 갖고 있는 분들입니다.

거룩함(being holy)은 단순히 착하게 사는 것(simply being good)과는 다른 것이며, 거룩한 체(saintly)하는 것과도 다른 것이며, 선을 쌓은 것과도 다른 것입니다.

거룩함은 주변에 있는 사람들은 지지하고 일으켜 세워주고, 그의 삶의 지경을 넓혀줍니다. 그리하여 거룩한 사람을 만나면, 주변에 있는 사람들은 지금까지 경험해 보지 못한 새로운 힘을 갖게 됩니다. 그리하여 "참으로 놀라운 세상이다" "참으로 놀라운 하나님이다" "나도 또한 얼마나 대단한 사람인가!"라는 탄성을 하게 합니다.

워십프론티어 신자들은 예수그리스도의 제자로써 거룩한 삶을 살아야 합니다. 주위에 있는 사람들에게 기쁨을 나타내도록 합시다. 거룩함을 연습합시다. 작은 예수가 되십시다. 그리스도로 옷입으라는 말씀처럼 그리스도로 가장하며 사십시다. 그리하여 신자를 마치 작은 그리스도를 보듯 하시는 하나님께서 예수 그리스도안에서 신자를 진짜 작은 그리스도로 바꾸어 가시도록 합시다.

[Sermon Summary]

The fourth characteristic of discipleship is being holy. The word “holy” appears over 1000 times in the Bible. In the Old Testament, holy is used in reference to "a place where shoes are taken off," "a place where only special priests go," and "a dangerous place where you could die." But in the New Testament, believers in the church are referred to as "God's holy people" and "saints." So believers in our church at Worship Frontier are "holy" according to the New Testament.

So how do you feel about being a holy person? We are all holy saints because Jesus sanctifies his disciples: "And I sanctify myself for their sake, that they also may be sanctified in truth (John 17:19)."

Being holy is different from simply being good, it's different from being saintly, and it's different from accumulating goodness.

Holiness sustains, lifts up, and enlarges the horizons of those around him, so that when he encounters a holy person, those around him have a new strength that they have never experienced before, and it causes them to exclaim, "What a wonderful world," "What a wonderful God," and "What a wonderful person I am!"

As disciples of Jesus Christ, Worship Frontier believers are to live holy lives. Let us show our joy to those around us. Practice holiness. Let's be little Jesus. Let's live in the guise of Christ, as we are told to clothe ourselves with Christ, so that God, who sees the believer as a little Christ, may transform the believer into the real little Christ in Jesus Christ.

11. How does the word "holiness" make you feel?

- Holiness is a difficult term.

- When I was zealous in my faith, I had a hard time understanding "holiness" and “awe(reverence, fear)".

- Then one day I came across a little book called "Living in the Fear of God." I read it several times and still couldn't really grasp what it meant to "fear God." What I eventually discovered is that people who live in the fear of God are people who genuinely love God and have a passion to live by God's word of truth. *There were a few people around me who showed hints of that.

12. Holiness in the Old Testament

- So what is "holiness"? When many people think of this word, they think of "a holy God." In the Old Testament, when the first temple (tabernacle) was built, God told them to make a "holy place and a holy of holies" in the temple.

In the Old Testament, "holy" is associated with places where you have to take off your shoes (Moses), places where only special people like priests go, and places where you can die (Mount Sinai, the Holy of Holies).

13. New Testament holiness

- Holiness in the New Testament is the holiness that Jesus creates. It seems to be different from its meaning in the Old Testament, but it can be said to be the same in the sense of the whole Bible (the whole Bible); but explaining the connection will have to wait for another time.

13-1. 성도: 하나님의 거룩한 사람들

13-1. Saints: God's Holy People

- The Apostle Paul uses holy in a different sense from the Old Testament meaning. As he writes, he uses the phrase "saints" or "God's holy ones" to refer to those in the church.

- If the Apostle Paul were writing to us (the congregation of Worship Frontier Church), he would say, "To all the saints in Christ Jesus who live in Boston.

- Q: How acceptable is that to me? How about you, how holy are you, how much good have we built up?

If holiness is related to 'how much good we have done', then I and you would not be able to accept this expression.

- Why would the Apostle Paul use the phrase "holy people" to describe believers in the church?

13-3. Way of the Cross
The words of John 17 relate to Jesus' last supper with his disciples before his crucifixion. Now Jesus is about to go to the place where he will be crucified and die.

The place where Jesus died is Golgotha. It's a rubbish dump outside the city of Jerusalem. Jesus' holiness is about walking through the midst of human nature, full of rubbish and suffering.

-- 'For Jesus, to be holy is not to be perfectly detached, but to be thoroughly engaged.' (quote)

-- 'Jesus goes [out of the city] to the places where people are despised and suffer' (Hebrews 13:13).

13-4. 예수님은 제자들을 거룩하게 하십니다.

- 'Christian holiness has to do with going out into the most difficult places in the name of Jesus, who went out into the most difficult places. What Jesus expects of believers is that they, too, become holy." (quote)

- Holiness, then, becomes a matter of participation in the world. In sanctifying himself, Jesus entered into the deepest depths of human experience. A believer is a follower of Jesus.

(*We often experience this in the Church when we meet people who seem saintly or very good.)

14. 거룩한 사람은?

- 거룩한 사람은 성인다운 정도가 아니라 실제로 성인입니다.

14. What is a holy person?

- A holy person is not just a saint, they are a saint.
- A holy person is someone who makes those around them feel better than they really are.
- Holiness is not the same as pursuing goodness and accumulating goodness, especially when the pursuit of goodness can take the form of competing with others. This is not the life of holiness.a

- A holy person somehow enlarges the world of the person around them, enables them to know themselves better, supports them, and lifts them up. Holy people don't compete.

- A holy person teaches those around them that there are things in this world that are amazing just to have.

- Holiness changes you and opens you up to opportunities. Holiness doesn't make you feel inadequate or self-deprecating; it makes you think of yourself as more awesome.

14-3. When you meet a holy person, new light shines and the landscape changes.

- A holy person gives those around him or her a new way of seeing things they hadn't seen before, things within themselves and around them.

- A holy person expands the world, not shrinks it. It is in this sense that Jesus is the "Most Holy One." Jesus is, above all, the one who changes the landscape and shines a new light on all things. Once you meet Jesus, you can never look at anything the same way again.

- So the believer becomes a new creature in Christ-a new creature, a new creation, a new being living in a new community.

- Holiness is not a matter of how much goodness a believer possesses.a Holiness has to do with expanding the world and participating in it.

- Quote: The thing about holy people is that they don't focus on themselves to the point of self-fulfilment. Holy people tell you not to look at them, but to look at the world around them; not at them, but at God. You don't walk away from them and feel, "Oh, what a great person!" but rather, "What an amazing world!" or "What an amazing God!" or even, in admiration, "What an amazing person I am!"

These qualities, with their transformative power, are the touchstones that reveal what is holy.

- The story of Beauty and the Beast: A young lady married a monster because she could not help it. She kissed the monster as she would a human being. Then, very fortunately for her, the monster turned into a young man, and they lived happily ever after.

- Similar story: There is a story of a man who was forced to wear a mask all the time. The mask made the man's face look more handsome than it was. He had to wear it for many years. Then one day, he took it off and found that his face had changed into the mask's likeness. He had become truly handsome. The camouflage had become reality.

- Faith is - the process of getting to know God, the step of getting to know God by experiencing Him (What is God like, what does He do?).

- Then, what kind of person should a believer be and what should he do with the answers?

- It is important to realise that the most important things in a believer's life can only be done by God. In that sense, the best a believer can do is pray to the God who does all things. In that sense, it is God who is actively pretending.

- Because God treats human beings who claim to believe in and follow Jesus, but are still full of self-centredness, greed, complaining, and rebellion, as He sees Jesus Christ.

- God sees the believer as if he were a little Christ, and Jesus Christ walks alongside the believer and transforms him into a real little Christ.

- This is how a higher being lifts up a lower being. Think of how a mother teaches her baby to speak by treating him as if he could speak, even though he hasn't really learnt to speak.

(야외예배) "기쁨이 가득한 도성, 행복을 누리는 백성" (사 11, 사65)

[설교 요약]

오늘은 야외예배를 드리면서, 하나님께서 우리에게 주시고자 하는 기쁨과 행복을 누리길 원합니다.

예수님이 이땅에 오시기 700년전에 이사야라는 선지자가 활동했습니다. 나라는 무너져 백성들이 포로로 잡혀가고 있었습니다.

그런데, 그는 반드시 새하늘과 새땅이 오고 이새(다윗)의 자손중에 구원자가 온다는 하나님의 말씀을 대언합니다. 새하늘과 새땅이 오면 그 안에서 젖을 뗀 아이들이 독사와 함께 놀고, 이리와 어린 양이 함께 풀을 먹는다고 합니다. 다시는 울음소리가 없고 기쁨과 즐거움의 소리가 넘처난다고 합니다.

예수를 따르는 신앙의 삶은 어떤 상황가운데서도 하나님이 선물로 주시는 미래를 소망하는 것입니다. 상황을 이기는 소망을 가졌다는 말은 예수를 믿고 성령님을 선물로 받았다는 말이며, 성령님이 그 삶에서 나타나고 있다는 뜻입니다.

세상 만물이, 구름과 바람과 꽃들과 나무들이 하나님을 찬양하듯이 주님을 따르는 하나님의 백성들도 새하늘과 새땅을 바라보며 어린아이와 같이 자기를 주님앞에서 나추어야 합니다. 그러한 삶의 특징은 길이길이 기뻐하고 즐거워하는 삶을 사는 것입니다. 어린아이와 같이 기뻐하시고 동료들과 함께 기뻐하는 삶을 사시길 축복합니다.

[Sermon Summary] Today, as we worship in the open air, we want to enjoy the joy and happiness that God wants to give us.

Seven hundred years before Jesus came to earth, a prophet named Isaiah was active. The nation was falling apart and the people were being taken into captivity.

But he proclaimed God's word that there would surely be new heavens and a new earth, and that a saviour would come from the seed of Jesse (David). When the new heavens and the new earth come, weaned children will play with vipers and lambs will eat grass together. Crying will never be heard again, and the sounds of joy and gladness will overflow.

A life of faith as a follower of Jesus is about hoping for God's gift of a future in the midst of any situation. Having a hope that overcomes circumstances means that you have believed in Jesus and received the Holy Spirit as a gift, and that the Holy Spirit is manifesting in your life.

Just as all things in the world, the clouds, the wind, the flowers, and the trees praise God, so God's people who follow the Lord should present themselves to the Lord like children, looking to the new heavens and the new earth. The hallmark of such a life is to live a life of joy and gladness in the way. May you rejoice like a child and be glad with your fellows.
